It’s time you meet The Butcher’s Wife

MONTHLY AFFAIRS WITH THE DRUNKEN FARMER

Diners who can’t get enough of chef Mariana’s creative flair can look forward to her monthly 5 Bites 5 Wines dinners held in conjunction with Drunken Farmer, a travelling natural wine bar and consultancy belonging to the same Spa Esprit Group portfolio of F&B brands that has made The Butcher’s Wife its latest pitstop since August 2019.

What began as a collaborative pop-up where diners are treated to five courses of gluten-free dishes from chef Mariana paired with five different natural wines curated by Drunken Farmer’s natural wine expert Eduardo Bayo at a steal of S$65 per person has since grew into a monthly affair and a permanent fixture on the estate’s social’s calendar, drawing flocks of discerning diners and drinkers each time.

It was the success of this affair that gave Drunken Farmer the impetus to first fully convert The Butcher’s Wife’s cellar to one fully stocked with natural wines, then launch Singapore’s very first brick and mortar natural wine retail space within the premises during the circuit breaker. In May 2020, Drunken Farmer clocked a significant milestone of its own by launching its very own online store via drunkenfarmer.sg.

Not only has this event helped Drunken Farmer grow its own cult following amongst The Butcher’s Wife regulars with a growing appreciation and thirst for natural wines, which in turn provided it the traction it needed to launch its e-commerce platform, it has also turned many natural wine lovers onto chef Mariana’s colourful brand of gluten-free cuisine that, in the same vein as natural wines, favour a gut-friendly way of eating and drinking.

Masterminding the trajectory and collaboration of both brands that led them to their present-day status, Cynthia Chua shares, “It’s been a while since two of Spa Esprit Group’s brands showed such great promise when pitted together, charting onwards even at a time marked by decline. It has as much to do with the brands as it has to do with having the right people behind it. I’m excited at the prospects of what they can both achieve as they continue to champion a gut-friendly lifestyle and community through their unique brand and perspective of gluten-free cuisine and natural wines.”

Drunken Farmer is a travelling pop-up natural wine bar and consultant who’s on a mission to sow the seeds of appreciation for the craft and land on which the natural wine movement was built upon, for those on both ends of the bar. Helmed by Eduardo Bayo, who was plucked from the thick of Montreal’s natural wine scene to champion the grower to glass movement in Singapore, he curates an exciting arsenal of over 90 natural, organic, biodynamic and sustainably-farmed labels sourced straight from winemakers all around the world – Australia, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand and South Africa.
